In this course, you learn the definitions of child abuse and neglect used in Washington State, as well as your obligation to report child maltreatment.  Topics covered include an overview of child welfare work pertaining to child safety, risk vs safety, global assessment and foundational ethical principles that guide this work. The Safety Framework model is also introduced.  You will spend majority of your learning building an understanding of present danger and the use of protective actions through scenarios where you will apply the information provided and then check your understanding. To assist you in your learning, a framework for assessing for and responding to present danger across cultural difference is provided and applied to the practice scenarios.
