TBRI is an attachment-based approach to parenting that is designed to meet the complex needs of children. TBRI uses the Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. This training module is designed to give participants insight into the roots of self-regulation difficulties common among “children from hard places.” This module aims to give participants practical tools to facilitate learning and practicing self-regulation skills. This training is the second of a three part series.

In this training, you’ll consider how to best explain the safety threat that’s keeping a child in out-of-home care and think about how this threat impacts child safety during family time. You’ll practice applying the threshold questions to decisions about family time and articulating to the court why you are recommending a specific level of supervision, even when the child needs to remain out of the home. You will also learn to address areas of personal and institutional bias and how this appears in the language used to shape views of child safety.

This two-week book club is an introduction to the concepts detailed in Robyn Gobbel's book, "Raising Kids with Big Baffling Behaviors." The weekly discussions are focused on section one of the book. Throughout the guided conversations, you will have the chance to consider how the neuroscience of behavior can help you better understand your child's actions and needs.

This four-week book club is an extension of the Topic Support Group: Big Baffling Behaviors Book Club, Introduction. The weekly discussions will cover sections two and three of Robyn Gobbel's book, "Raising Kids with Big Baffling Behaviors." Throughout the guided discussions, you will have the chance to consider how the concept of the Owl, Watchdog and Possum brains impact your child's behaviors, develop parenting strategies tailored to your home, and build your own self-regulation toolkit.

The Period of PURPLE Crying will provide social workers with an understanding of the importance of assessing for both prolonged crying in infancy and the caregiver’s ability to manage long periods of crying. Emphasis will be placed on safety in terms of the connection between prolonged crying and child abuse/neglect, as well as completion of the Period of PURPLE Crying Training Certification through dontshake.org (if not previously completed).

The Plan of Safe Care is an element of case planning for families with infants born with and affected by substance abuse or withdrawal symptoms resulting from prenatal drug exposure, or a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, or born to a dependent youth. The Plan of Safe Care focuses on access to a network of community-based providers and support services and addresses the needs of both the infant and the family/caregiver.
