During the Advanced offering you will have multiple opportunities for practice and skill development as well as the opportunity to begin the process of being coded to fidelity through the use of the Motivational Interviewing Competency Assessment (MICA) tool. People from all cultural groups will be affected by suicide, non-fatal suicidal behavior, and suicidal ideation, often in significantly different ways. Theoretical frameworks and practice recommendations to address these outcomes continue to emerge and evolve. To promote hope and recovery for everyone, this course applies a framework for cultural competency training to suicide care with diverse populations. This course discusses a model for how culture influences suicide risk and suggests the use of clinical tools for culturally informed assessment and management of suicide risk.

The focus of this course is on the role of the CFWS caseworker in achieving permanency for children taking into consideration how safety threats, risk factor and protective factors apply to achieving timely permanency. Caregivers will also collaborate to identify techniques they can use to increase attachment with their child through reading and story time. Trauma Informed Engagement is a 6-hour course applying lessons from trauma studies to child welfare practice for children, youth, and adults.
