People from all cultural groups will be affected by suicide, non-fatal suicidal behavior, and suicidal ideation, often in significantly different ways. Theoretical frameworks and practice recommendations to address these outcomes continue to emerge and evolve. To promote hope and recovery for everyone, this course applies a framework for cultural competency training to suicide care with diverse populations.  This course discusses a model for how culture influences suicide risk and suggests the use of clinical tools for culturally informed assessment and management of suicide risk.

Reading with your children can do much more than support their academic growth! During this supportive facilitated discussion caregivers will discuss strategies they can use before, during, and after reading to build social-emotional learning with the children in their care. Caregivers will also collaborate to identify techniques they can use to increase attachment with their child through reading and story time. Whether it is picture books, a chapter book or a series, reading with the children in your home can lead to deeper attachment and improved social-emotional skills!

In response, federal agencies have recommended that communities take a comprehensive approach to suicide prevention with actions that span multiple levels of prevention. State and community partners in this work, however, have expressed uncertainty on exactly how to begin with this approach.

These children tend to: •    Form stronger friendships with peers •    Have higher self esteem •    Regulate their moods more easily •    Be more successful in their problem-solving skills •    Bounce back from emotional events more quickly •    Get sick less often
