The “Engaging Youth In Group Care” series is composed of seven modules for those working with youth in a group care setting who have moderate to severe emotional and behavioral challenges.Foundational Module 1 helps you develop an understanding of the underlying causes of a youth’s behavior, which is one of the first steps in supporting their well-being.Foundational Modules 1 and 2 must be taken in order.  After you have completed these two modules, you can take the remaining 5 modules in any order.

This discussion will prepare CPS FAR and CPS FVS caseworkers who wish to expand their practice in developing case plans with parents/caregivers, children, Tribal representatives, and other family identified supports. Participants will learn how to make the most of meeting with families in building a working relationship geared toward reducing or eliminating safety threats and increasing the parent or caregiver’s protective capacities to ensure child safety, well-being, and permanency.

These sessions will provide participants of the Advanced Motivational Interviewing training an opportunity to deepen use and practice of Motivational Interviewing, focused on everyday child welfare.  You will focus on your role as a facilitator rather than an expert to collaborate, evoke and honor the family’s autonomy. These sessions will provide opportunities to apply strategic responses to move families toward change without coercion and avoid practitioner responses that trigger resistance.

The RIGHT RESPONSE Workshop is primarily prevention training. The Advanced Level 4 training is a full 14-hour certification which provides the skills of Prevention, De-escalation, Postvention and Physical Interventions, including Escorts and Therapeutic Holds. Attendees learn to use physical intervention as the last resort to maintaining safety and learn more proactive alternatives which can prevent dangerous incidents and increase safety.Attendees that complete the workshop receive a 1 year certification and recertification training will be offered annually.

The RIGHT RESPONSE Level 3 Workshop is primarily prevention training.  This 11-hour certification provides basic skills including Prevention, De-escalation, Postvention, and Physical Safety skills. Attendees learn about self-awareness, reflective thinking skills, positive behavior support, basic and advanced de-escalation skills, self-protection, and proactive alternatives which can prevent dangerous incidents and increase safety.Attendees that complete the workshop receive a 2-year certification.

Trauma Informed Engagement is a 6-hour course applying lessons from trauma studies to child welfare practice for children, youth, and adults. Participants will discuss practice guidelines crucial to trauma informed practice in any setting. Participants will learn to distinguish trauma from other adversities and suffering; describe the characteristics, dynamics and effects of trauma; and emphasize the ways in which chronic trauma and complex trauma compromise normal functioning.
