Each of these 1-hour culturally focused sessions help caregivers of Native American children incorporate indigenous cultural elements into your home for the benefit of the child. Led by the Alliance CaRES Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) Specialist, these sessions will introduce the historical foundation of specific activities and why they are important in Native American culture. You will be introduced to embedded cultural aspects particular to Washington State Tribes, including appropriate attire and behavior during events and activities in the community.

These sessions provide participants of the Domestic Violence in Child Welfare in-service training an opportunity to expand their knowledge and work within live cases. Topics of the sessions are identified by the cohort members and learning activities are organized and facilitated by Alliance staff. These sessions will rely on the policy and best practices in "The Social Worker’s Practice Guide to Domestic Violence" for child welfare work with families experiencing domestic violence.

The Individual Skill Development for Supervision-Related Compliance Agreements session supports caregivers who are under DCYF Licensing Division Compliance Agreements for child/youth supervision issues. DCYF Licensing Division staff will typically refer caregivers to receive this session when Compliance Agreements are established for supervision concerns.

This 3-hour training is designed to provide an understanding of Family Time. As caregivers, you play an important role in supporting children, siblings and families in maintaining their connections. Family Time will be developed to give parents and children quality time, in the least restrictive setting, so their family bonds and connections will be preserved while temporarily not being able to live together. You will learn what will be included in Family Time plans and the reasoning around supervision levels.

While you wait for your license or first placement to arrive, this facilitated discussion will help you consider some of the needs in the fostering community and how you are suited to meet them. You’ll talk with fellow new foster parents about some of the changes and expectations that come with fostering.

This 3-hour focused topic training for caregivers will focus on how children exposed to prenatal substance abuse in their life have an increased chance of experiencing many effects, such as poor social, cognitive, and emotional development, physical, mental, and health issues, depression, anxiety, concentration and learning difficulties, trouble controlling their responses as well as other traumatic issues. The goal of this training is to identify and address the impacts Prenatal drug use has on children and set up a successful environment and coping skills.

This 3-hour focused topic training for caregivers provides an in-depth exploration of Drug Impacted Infants and Toddlers. The training focuses on how to identify and address the impacts drugs have on infants and toddlers; how to recognize symptoms; set up a successful environment and work together with the team in providing care for the child. Caregivers will leave this training feeling empowered to care for a drug impacted Infant as they grow through infancy, toddlerhood, and preschool.
